My artistic journey commenced after I retired and returned to Adelaide. I have been very fortunate to learn, and continue to learn, my craft from Peter Bok and Rob Gutteridge. My main focus is on Still Life and Portraits, and my preferred medium is oil paint. I follow the Classical style with its rich history and focus on detail.

I am drawn to objects for their shape or colour or texture. As I strive to capture the essence of my composition I ponder on the life story of each object. Who previously owned it, did they treasure it, and, for some of them, how did it find its way into an Op Shop. Why would someone have an unused oilcan? Some of my curiosity is influenced by stories such as Anna Funder’s wonderful novel “All that I am”. The opportunity to ask those questions of her main character was suddenly gone, too late, too late. The oilcan inspired my series Enduring Spirit as it finally had a use.
